Yes I do realise how marvellously inappropriate this beach post is when most people are wrapped up beneath layers of knitwear, crouching next to their radiators, but I’m going to steam ahead anyway. I’m in Dubai and I am determined to enjoy it – and much of my enjoyment comes from the knowledge that it is freezing cold at home, yet I am in the warm. Sorry – it’s perverse, I know.
Anyway, if you can bear to read on then do. Perhaps you live in a hot country or are about to take a Winter Sun break – who knows? This week’s two minute “beach-to-evening” look has mostly involved plonking on a layer of Chanel’s Les Beiges and then adding a coat of Clarins Be Long mascara, top and bottom.
Not much going on, really, but it’s amazing how little makeup you can get away with when you’ve got an outdoorsy glow and a hint of a tan. And Chanel’s Les Beiges is the most excellent “no makeup makeup” around – I buffed this complexion powder in with a kabuki brush and it instantly evened out any flushed bits and mopped up the shiny areas without caking or looking grubby. (I buffed it in straight over my SPF as I had no time to wash!)
So top marks to Chanel, but “hero product” status must go to Sisley’s Phyto Ombre Glow, a shimmering beauty of an eyeshadow that looks good regardless of how precisely or shoddily it is applied. It’s just brilliant quality and this particular shade (Amber) is striking without being too blingy. It really brightens the lids but then adds definition if used on the lower lashline, where the light doesn’t catch so readily. Sweeping it on over the eyelids and adding a little beneath the eyes takes around twenty seconds to do, but adds untold amounts of glamour.
Those who were asking which shadow I wore in the Men’s Gift Guide video – this is it. I shall endeavour to find a less pricey match (Sisley is always on the steep side!) but I would say that this is a beautiful formula – so velvety and easy to apply. You can see more details at House of Fraser.
