Ah yes, Moneybags Monday. The time of either great sorrow or extreme danger depending on whether or not you decide to save your pennies or splurge your cash. Today’s lust-worthy item is Guerlain’s Ecrin 6 Couleurs palette and the shade combination is ‘Place Vendome’.
Strictly speaking, this compact shouldn’t be a Moneybags Monday item; yes, it’s quite dear at £52.50, but in actual fact it works out to be pretty good value for money! The compact itself is incredibly heavy and expensive-looking, a little piece of artwork in itself. More like a vintage cigarette case than an eyeshadow palette! Inside there are six shadows of exceptional quality – a jewel-like bright blue nestling in amongst various flattering tones. Three of the shades are really very neutral and great for creating a good base – pearly shades add a bit of ‘lift’ to the matte textures, and the lightest neutral is good for adding highlights. The bright blue and very dark navy are good for pressing in at the lash-line to add colour and definition – although they look nice with blue eyes, they would be amazing against brown!
There’s nothing particularly adventurous about the shades in this lovely compact, but the shadows are very fine indeed – long-lasting, easy to apply and blend, sophisticated in tone. The packaging is really very special – definitely a bit of a collector’s item!
