Makeup: When Everything Falls Into Place…

Usually I’m happiest with my makeup when I haven’t thought too much about it. It’s total sod’s law, but my looks seem to always turn out much better when I don’t video them! I think it might actually be because when I’m filming I use a small compact mirror – and that’s only every now and then when I need to check that I don’t have huge patches of foundation missing or lipstick on my teeth – and the rest of the time I sort of guesstimate what I’m doing in the flip-out screen of the camera. When I’m just tootling along doing my face in my own time, I use a proper big mirror and I’m concentrating only on my makeup, rather than chatting and zooming-in and making sure that I’m not gurning as I apply my mascara.

Anyway, I was very happy with my face for the Marc Jacobs lipstick shots, so here’s what I had on. Apart from the MJ lipstick in Moody Margot (see here) I was wearing the Bourjois City Radiance foundation in shade 2 (see review here – I still like the Healthy Mix better, but this does give an amazing glow!), Bobbi Brown Illuminating Powder in Bare (here), YSL Touche Eclat Neutraliser in Bisque (under the eyes for a bit of added brightness and warmth, find it here) and the new l’Oreal False Lash Sculpt Mascara (here) which has a very odd little brush but gives very good lash.

I really need to do a mascara post – I’ve tried so many good ones recently – but it’s such a bloody faff taking it off and putting it on again! Honestly! It makes my eyes weep for mercy. It’s also ridiculously hard to take good photos of eyelashes. Mine often look like massacred centipedes when I go to edit the shots. And close-ups of eyeballs are never a good thing…
