Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation Review

creamy face makeup foundation review

I promised some standalone review posts on the foundations mentioned in last week’s video and here’s the first: Laura Mercier’s Silk Creme Photo Edition Moisturizing Foundation. It’s absolutely gorgeous – reminds me a little bit of By Terry’s Sheer Expert, in that it’s glowy without shimmer, dewy without grease and incredibly easy to blend. The coverage is what I would call medium – the press release says full, but I don’t agree. The Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation doesn’t cover marks and blemishes in their entirety, not as much as something like Estee Lauder’s Double Wear would, but then the finish is far more natural and luminous – it manages to create a very even skintone without looking mask-like or thick.

I applied with a sponge the first time, mainly because that’s what it said on the instructions and I was feeling obedient, but I’ve also blended with fingertips and used my Real Techniques brush – all methods work perfectly. The foundation texture is what I’d call plump; it’s not rich and thick, but creamy with a very hydrating, nourishing feel. Great for dry or dehydrated skin that’s sick of all these thin, liquidy face bases!

You can see that one quick blend-out gave me a really even finish that was radiant and healthy-looking without having any kind of greasy residue. There’s still a hint of dark circle beneath my eyes – another indication that this isn’t the heaviest foundation in terms of coverage – but little blemishes and moles and marks have been adequately blurred. I’ll definitely be adding the Silk Creme Photo Edition Moisturizing Foundation to my makeup kit – although I do like all of these new-fangled lighter-than-air bases that keep launching, the feel of a more traditional, creamy foundation is very comforting especially as my skin has been a little drier during pregnancy.

You can find Laura Mercier’s Silk Creme Foundation at SpaceNK here – it’s £35, and I think that there’s still the “spend £40, get £10 back” offer running, if you’re quick! I use shade 02, Cream Ivory, but could probably wear a shade darker too, especially as we move into summer.
