Ingredient Love: Niacinamide

skincare review best anti-age

One to look out for in your ingredients lists: Niacinamide. I know I’ve banged on about this before so I do apologise if I’m boring you, but the more I read about it, the better this awkward-to-spell ingredient seems to become! I don’t particularly like the term “anti-ageing” because it’s just such a loose and flabbily-defined one, but for want of a better phrase, I’m going to use it. Niacinamide is a brilliant “anti-ageing” ingredient. It works its ass off to tackle the little (and not so little) things that over time begin make us look older – dark patches, dehydration lines, lack of firmness. Things that Niacinamide (or Vitamin B3) does well include:

1) Helping to moisturise the skin by preventing water loss

2) Improving elasticity and fatty acid levels in the skin (plumpy plumpy!)

3) Treating uneven skintone by helping to get rid of dark spots and acne scars. It actually inhibits pigmentation so it’s great if you want ongoing treatment for a brighter and more uniform look.

Products I use and love that contain Niacinamide include:

Liquid Gold Intensive Night Repair Serum (post here, get it here)

Olay Regenerist 3 Point Super Serum (ingredients and info here)

Clinique’s Super Rescue Antioxidant Moisturiser (one of my most-used, ever, moisturisers. Read about it in my top ten beauty products post.)

Check your existing products – you’ll probably find some niacinamide lurking about in there somewhere. And please add your suggestions below if you know of any niacinamide-containing wonders that I should write on my list!
