Oh my, oh my, oh my, Will you just feast your eyes on this little number? Covetable, chic and almost too posh to use. This is Guerlain’s new Ecrin 2 Couleurs and the colourway is called Two Spicy. I’ll start with a disclaimer on this one, though; colour pay-off on that bright copper shadow is not as vibrant as one would expect. If you’re looking for that perfect autumnal shade then this may fall short – it’s designed to be a sheer wash of shimmer rather than an opaque, dense colour. It’s paired with a deeper, more solid chocolate and the two are supposed to work in harmony to create gorgeous, three dimensional looks.
And they do – the end effects are stunning. The chocolate shade is so finely milled that you can almost apply it with your fingertips and smudge it out – it’s gorgeous to work with. The shimmer can be concentrated towards the inner corner of the eye, blending out with the chocolate and becoming darker and darker towards the outer edges – an easy smoky eye that looks very glamorous.
But I want to draw your attention to the packaging. (Not that I need to, I’m sure you’ve already had a little heart-flutter.) This is the kind of casing that really gets me going – the design is impeccable. Slender, classic – it reminds me of a very expensive zippo lighter. Look at that embossing! What is a shame is that it’s made from plastic. All of it. Compared to the heft of the Ecrin 6 Couleurs palette, it feels very light and insubstantial. It looks great, but metal casing would have elevated this little morsel to dizzying heights! If you want to visually devour the Ecrin 6 Couleurs then you can check out my review here.
Despite the packaging weight issue, this is the kind of makeup that makes me want to be a proper grown up lady – one who wears heels all the time and only takes taxis. Checks her face discreetly as she waits for her coffee at the Dorchester; snaps shut her compact and slides it into her Hermes bag. I will never be that woman; taxis frustrate me because they never go the right route. Heels frustrate me because I can’t run for a bus in them. As for coffee, I’ve never tried one and I doubt that I ever will; I’m just not fussed. So I’ll never be that chic lady that resides in my fantasies, but I like to play with her cosmetics bag! Do I need a palette that contains only two shades, one a wish-wash of glimmer? No I do not.
If you’re looking for a naughty little autumn treat, then this is a pretty one, though definitely weigh up whether you might want to go the extra mile and invest in the heavyweight version. This one is £30 for two shades, but for around £50 you can have the 6 Couleurs, all housed in a metal case. Take a look at the 6 Couleurs shades here. If you need a mascara to top things off then I can’t praise Guerlain’s Maxi Lash (here) any more than I have done already. It’s in my top, top mascaras. (My review of it is here.)
