It seems to be turning into lipstick week – first the Chanel Jumbo Crayon and now the L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine – but it’s not often I find formulas that I want to wear again and again, so I’m passing on the recommendations while they’re fresh in my mind.
And I’ve mentioned L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Shine lipsticks loads over the past couple of months – unbelievably juicy, they have a surprising amount of pigment and a gorgeous, non-sticky sheen. I liked my peachy-coral one (247, Shot of Sun) so much that I went to Boots and bought three more shades and that is unheard of for me – I have dozens of lip things waiting to be tried and so doubling up on existing products just isn’t sensible!
But I loved the balm-like quality of the Colour Riche Shine lipsticks – the sort of texture that’s so soft and inviting you actually want to keep on applying it – along with the intensity of colour, which seemed unusual for such a shiny, slippery product.
This isn’t a lipstick for the Longevity Crew – those people needing four, eight, twelve hours of wear should skip to the next post. But if you like a low-key gloss without even the merest hint of stickiness or tackiness and you want a comfortable feel from your lipstick, you’ll love it.
The closest comparison I can think of in terms of similar products on the market would probably be YSL’s Rouge Volupté Shine; it has that kind of finish that’s almost like a very lightweight oil across the lips. Rouge Volupté Shine is obviously the luxury option – the packaging is a decadent little treat in itself – but the Colour Riche Shine isn’t far off. A lighter (plastic) casing, but it still looks chic and the lipsticks themselves come in some very similar shades.
In fact, my favourite shade in the Colour Riche Shine, 658 “Topless”, isn’t an entirely bad dupe for my favourite Volupté Shine shade, which is shade 47. You could probably get even closer – the L’Oreal one has a hint more mauve to it – but both are that lovely pinky-neutral that I tend to go for when I want an easy polished look.
You can find the Colour Riche Shine lipsticks online at Boots here* – they’re £8.99 each. If you want to see shade 247 in action then take a look at this video. It’s quite a sexy little summer shade – peachy with a bit of a golden glimmer.
Pragmatism rules here! I’m in love with lipstick but realize that nothing lasts forever! My favorite lipstick of all time, Guerlain’s Kiss Kiss in the color Pushy Pink was discontinued and I’ve yet to find another similar shade! I’ll have to check these out!!!! So glad I found your blog!!!
Welcome! x
Found these at my neighborhood supermarket while filling a scrip for antibiotics (monster sinus infection). I felt so yucky I treated myself to 2 shades! Love them!! The color payoff and finish are perfect for keeping in your pocket and swiping on during the day. This formula also seems like it might have better staying power than the ysl volupte. I love that one, but it just doesn’t last long at all on me.
So happy to have read about a product on here and found it locally (I’m in Texas)!
xoxo You’re the best, Ruth!
No way! Glad to help – especially love a treat during illness! : )
The colors in the USA have different names and different numbers so it’s hard to figure out which colors you love . I bought 2 that look similar and I do love them but I’m still curious if the colors I picked are the same you recommended or if I’m missing out on another fabulous color.
Oh that’s annoying!!! x
So pretty! Love these shades.
I need to try this lipstick ! Sounds like a great formula !

Great review! I just bought myself 3 for the price of 2 at the big chemist chain on the High Street’!! Really comfortable on the lips and long lasting – I have the YSL ones but prefer these now!
Great content… Lipstick is really most important thing…
I have a gorgeous coral called high on craze, the shot of sun was too pale for me but last time I looked that had added new shades so feel a trip ‘t’big boots’ is in order!
Haven’t bought a L’Oreal lipstick in a long time but I used to really enjoy them. Probably time to revisit – these ones sound perfect for the last few weeks of summer.

I tried the shot of sun one and my lips just looked dead! I thought the texture was a bit weird too. I wish there was a way of trying lipsticks actually on your lips hygienically as this one just went straight in my bin
I need to try this lipstick! I love a moisturising nude for a day time look. Love this post.
This is a great lip product! I picked up my very first one when I was in London this past June (the full range isn’t available in Canada yet). The only thing I don’t particularly like about the lipstick is that the bullet itself is too soft. It seems to melt in the tube far too easily. I may start keeping mine in my fridge from now on, to harden it up.
How is the fragrance? I have tried L’oreal lipstick, which I like EXCEPT for the fragrance, which smells like little kid toy lipstick. It’s a shame, because I like the lipstick itself. Too bad I can’t abide the fragrance. The Colour Riche Shine looks like it would be a great product. Should I take a chance on the fragrance?
Smells fruity – not dissimilar to the YSL one actually! x
I love the formula of these, but the shade I was sent, a deep purple, just doesn´t agree with my skin tone. I guess I should buy a few more in different colors for the colder months, they really feel like a balm.
