You probably know by now that I don’t champion the use of face wipes for a proper, makeup-removing cleanse, but I do think that some of these disposable what-nots have their place in the beauty cabinet. For quick, emergency cleansing or for makeup removal on-the-go, they are really useful and if you ever want to just change part of your finished makeup look then they are actually rather indispensable. You have to be careful which you choose, however; some face wipes are absolutely dire beyond belief. I’ve come away from beauty shoots with huge raw welts on my face after using certain “baby-friendly” tissues!
Luckily, I’ve found two very good versions recently. They’re not strictly wipes, because they’re round and very thin, but they serve the same purpose. (And more, as you shall see!) The first cleansing pads are the No Traces pads from This Works. Rosewater infused but not particularly scented, the pads have a slightly rough surface which seems to pick up quite a bit of dirt and makeup from the skin. They leave it feeling fresh but not tight and there’s no real stickiness. I’d always suggest a quick rinse after using wipes, anyway, so if there’s any residue it’ll be gone with a brisk splash of water!
JASON’s Quick Clean pads are slightly smaller and, I think, wetter than the ones from This Works. These contain Aloe, Cucumber and Eyebright and are so, so soothing. They are a dream on sensitive eyes – if you like Liz Earle’s Eyebright then you will adore these! They do a decent job of surface cleansing and they leave the skin cooled and comforted without any tightness. There’s absolutely no residue or stickiness. I can’t fault the JASON pads – they have a slight whiff of the health food shop, but I find that with all of their products! I think that for keeping in your bag or desk drawer, they’re just perfect, especially during the summer months. A very good find indeed.
A bonus use, as promised: take two JASON pads and in the morning when your alarm goes off, place them firmly over your closed eyes. Hit the snooze button on your iPhone and relax until the alarm goes off again! The pads are like an eye treatment sent from heaven – they really seem to help with my gammy hayfever problem. You could do the same with the No Traces too, but I think that the Eyebright in the JASON pads really makes them fantastic for the eye area.
Price wise, This Works come in at £17 for 60 pads – you can get them with free delivery here. The JASON Quick Clean pads are £7.29 for 75, albeit smaller, pads – you can get those with free delivery here. Let me know how you get on!
