October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and I thought that I would draw your attention to a few fundraising events that are going on. I was told by Caroline Hirons (of Beauty Mouth) that in 1972 the breast cancer fatality rate was 85% – in 2011? 85% survival. How utterly amazing is that?
Really quite, quite astonishing. If you’d like to do something towards helping raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness or make a donation then there are plenty of events going on. Estee Lauder are always hugely active during the month of October with a range of Pink Ribbon products. Some of the highest donations of all, percentage-wise, are from the jewelled pin (above) of which 100% goes to charity and the Jo Malone Red Roses Hand and Body Wash, £30, with £5 going straight to charity.
Escentual.com are donating 10% from all sales of special ‘pink’ products, and Lola’s Cupcakes have teamed up with Mama Mio to support Look Good…Feel Better, a support charity that helps women to manage the visible side effects of cancer treatments. For every little boob-embellished cupcake sold (and Lola’s cupcakes are out of this world!) Mama Mio and Lola’s will donate £4.50 to the charity.
If you’d like to make a donation rather than buying things, then I can recommend paying a visit to two very lovely ladies; Caroline of the aforementioned Beauty Mouth and Nicoletta from Nicoletta’s Blog. Both are raising money for causes very close to their hearts, and their stories are so touching. I think that most of us have been affected by cancer in some way – whether a family member or a friend has had it, or perhaps you yourself. I think that it’s lovely to have a month where everyone comes together to raise money for such a good cause!
