Obsessed as I now am with overnight peels and resurfacers, I have been testing out the lot. Obviously I have to give them a fairly thorough test (it would be unfair to try and review one after a single use!) and so it will take a while to get through them. The latest from the pile, though, is the new launch from good ol’ Clinique: the Turnaround Overnight Radiance Moisturizer, £34.
The sales-speak: “Radiance-making moisture cream reveals brighter, smoother, younger-looking skin overnight. Gently clears away the dulling effects of time and sun damage. Supplies nourishing moisture. Skin feels velvety smooth, looks radiant – in the morning and over time. Oil-free.”
My speak: A moisturising cream that also promises to exfoliate. It feels comfortable to apply (no burny sensation or discomfort) which makes me think that it’s not that effective an exfoliant (I’ve come to be quite the expert on tingle-to-effectiveness ratios!) but nevertheless my skin does feel smoother and look brighter in the morning. Not in a “WHOA! Who is that in the mirror?” kind of way, but a pleasing, “ooh, skin doesn’t look too rough today!” way. The cream absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any greasy residue, so it’s a good choice for most skin types. I do like this one, but – as I mentioned – I’m not absolutely positive that it’s the most powerful exfoliant on the block. It contains acids that would exfoliate at the right pH, butI have no idea what the pH is and my home laboratory is shut for..er…ever. In fact, it has never been open, because if I did have a science lab at home, I would have no doubt blown up my house by now.
So: overall, it’s a lovely night cream and it will hopefully go some way to polishing up the skin overnight. It’s seems to only be a little baby-step towards the full-on skin resurfacing that is the Alpha-H Liquid Gold, but exfoliating properties (or lack of?) aside, it’s a jolly good moisturiser! It’s also gentle enough, I’d say, to use every night – which is a huge bonus for those who like their skincare routine simple and habitual!
(On a little side-note: not everyone is as obsessed with overnight exfoliation as me, so please feel free to ignore my harping on about it!)
