There’s a new kid on the block when it comes to sheer, barely-there makeup; Complexion Enhancers. Skin perfectors, illuminating foundation primers, ‘no foundation’ foundations, ‘second skin’ makeup – they all enhance the skin without the need for blending or colour-matching. I absolutely love them, and am in the process of doing a video of my favourite ones – they’re the next step down from a tinted moisturiser, perfect for days when you don’t want to have to wear any makeup at all!

My most-used enhancer of the moment is Dior’s Nude Glow Complexion Enhancer. It’s quite a bright apricot colour when it comes out of the bottle, but it disappears into the skin completely, without a trace. And that is why it took me a while to come around to the wondrousness of the Nude Glow – when I tested it on the back of my hand, I thought that it was utterly useless! I couldn’t see any difference whatsoever in my skin. A few weeks later I tested it on my face and was amazed; it made my skin look great – fresh, radiant and even-toned. I apply the Nude Glow exactly as I would my day cream. Haphazardly. It’s foolproof, it’s quick and it has instant results. Never mind Beauty Flash Balm – this is a glow that you can actually see!

ruth crillyExcuse my hair in the above picture – I was concentrating on the skin more than the hair! All that I have on my skin is the Nude Glow – you can see that coverage-wise, it’s poor. It’s not supposed to replace foundation and it doesn’t claim to. But it has done a mighty fine job of illuminating and smoothing the skin’s surface – there’s a real visible radiance there.

The formula isn’t moisturising, neither is it drying – it’s an extra ‘boost’to get skin glowing – so don’t use it to replace your moisturiser or usual skincare. It’s really light, so it shouldn’t feel as though it’s adding an unwanted layer. I have been wearing this enhancer on its own recently, because my skin has been pretty good, but it works well underneath tinted moisturiser or the more sheer foundations.

Diorskin Nude Glow Complexion Enhancer launches exclusively at Selfridges today. Or at least it was supposed to. Can’t seem to find it online – I shall update when I have more news!
