A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to get an appointment with the colour-maestro Nathan Walker, Trevor Sorbie’s international technical director, to have a bit of a colour MOT. I have been very happy with my gloss colour and lack of highlights, but recently I have started to feel that my hair’s a little too dark and natural! As a model with a bit of a ‘blonde and curvy’ niche, clients expect me to turn up looking reasonably similar to the pictures in my portfolio and so I thought that it was time for a little ‘lift’.

So yes, anyway, I wanted to go a bit blonder, but (nightmare client request coming up!) I didn’t want to have to have my hair re-coloured on a regular basis, and I didn’t want there to be any dark regrowth. Nathan assessed my hair with the stealth-like precision of a surgeon about to perform a life-saving operation – I was very impressed, and immediately felt reassured that my colour was in very safe hands! What a surprise, though, when Nathan – after what seemed like only a couple of minutes of putting in foils – said that he was finished! Over the years I have got quite used to sitting and having my foils done for easily an hour, the technician working through my hair systematically and neatly in an almost coma-inducing manner. Nathan seemed to pick out pieces of hair as though he were an artist, painting an end here, a root there, and I have to admit that I was a little sceptical as to the result.

The colour looked amazing. Seriously, I have no idea how he managed to so completely transform it with so few tweaks! They must have been very clever little tweaks indeed! The parts of my hair that were too light and brassy were toned down, the darker sections were lifted and the overall result was a glossy, expensive blonde with lots of variety in tone and depth. Nathan said that I probably wouldn’t need my colour doing again for nearly three months. Three months! The man is some kind of genius.

After my colour I was whisked upstairs wearing my fetching turban (isn’t that just the worst part of going to the salon? Is there anyone who doesn’t look like an utter pillock with a towel tightly bound about their head?) to have a cut and blowdry. Again, it was the little tweaks that made a wonderful difference; Petros didn’t cut very much off the length at all, but added some shape to the front where it was looking a little drab. Bravo. He also did an amazing blowdry that no doubt I will attempt to copy soon, to disastrous effect!

I think that the boys at Trevor Sorbie might have thought I was a little odd – it was the day of the lash loss, when I had basically pulled out most of my eyelashes and then poured oil into my eyes trying to soften the glue. When I arrived for my appointment, I had streaming red eyes and what appeared to be just four or five long, thick black lashes on each lid! If they thought that I was bonkers then they hid it well – if they’re reading this then “I’m not crazy!” I do look a little stressed in my photo but – hey! – check out my hair!
