Sunday’s post on the Liz Earle eye cream reminded me about two others that I have been trying out – Trilogy’s Eye Contour Cream and Lavera’s organic intensive eye cream from the new MY AGE anti-aging range. The reason that I have been testing out all of these eye creams is that I’m preparing for a feature on products for sensitive skin in the eye area. I’m not, like, a crazy eye-cream addict or anything.

So, Trilogy. This cream claims to ‘restore and revive the delicate eye area’, and promises a formula that ‘instantly hydrates, firms and tones skin and helps reduce puffiness’. The standard eye cream patter but this cream is anything but standard. It works really, really well – my undereye area felt totally refreshed as soon as the cream absorbed, and despite the cream feeling quite light to apply (it absorbs instantly) the effects are quite ‘heavy duty’. It really does moisturise well, and for a long period of time, yet there’s no weird greasy residue. It’s perfect under makeup but equally perfect as a night-time treatment – it really soothes and calms the eye area. As I write, I have this cream on one eye, and nothing on the other, and I can feel a tremendous difference! In terms of anti-aging and fighting wrinkles, this cream contains organic rosehip oil and vitamin A – powerful ingredients when it comes to promoting skin repair and renewal. There’s also Aloe Vera and Eyebright, which must be what makes it so lovely and cooling. This is a very good eye cream  and if you’re into your organic ingredients and natural products, you’ll especially love this – it’s incredibly hard working!

Lavera’s Intensive Eye Cream promises to ‘visibly smooth the delicate skin around the eyes’. I am now applying Lavera’s offering to the undereye area of my second eye. Other eye, I should say, but won’t. Let’s see now…soothing, refreshing…oooh! Tightening! Yes – there is a definite tightening sensation. This cream is definitely making the skin feel cooler and tauter. It’s amazing what you notice when you really concentrate – I’ve been using this for weeks and this is the first time that I’ve properly thought about what it’s actually doing! This cream absorbs easily – not quite as easily as the Trilogy, but I’m quibbling over a matter of seconds here. The Lavera cream contains much more technical sounding ingredients than the Trilogy; ‘Phytocollagen’, ‘Nutri-Ceramide’, ‘Sepilift’. Don’t let that worry you at all, beauty purists, Lavera products are certified 100% free from synthetic preservatives, mineral oils and perfumes. Despite that, this cream still manages to provide a natural UV protection in the form of Karanja Oil, and a nice lemony fragrance. Again, like the Trilogy, it’s good under makeup and it provides long-lasting moisture.

I know what you’re going to ask me now: which one is better? My answer depends on your eye cream requirements. The Trilogy cream is slightly richer and I would plump for this if your eye area is very dry and dehydrated – this would be a good in-flight eye cream. The Lavera does an incredible job with refreshing and tightening the eye area, amazing on tired, hot eyes that are threatening to puff up. I’m literally splitting hairs here, because both creams do an excellent job and both are gentle enough for the most sensitive skin. I shall continue to use them in rotation! The Lavera costs around £17.90 for 15ml (£1.19 per ml), the Trilogy £26 for 20ml (£1.30 per ml), so you can see that there’s very little difference in price – and they’re very fair prices, too, in my opinion.
