There are two jars on my desk; two very plain jars with simple labels bearing very simple descriptions of the contents – one is marked ‘Skin Serum’, the other ‘Intensive Face Balm’. These jars contain products that were, until now (BIG MOUTH ME!) one of Devon’s best-kept secrets. Don’t let the plain jar and basic labelling deceive you – the products within are really rather spectacular! Made by Brenda Anvari, who spent many years creating treatments and products for Elizabeth Arden, the formulas are effective but gentle, packed full of natural goodness and – excitingly – not ridiculously expensive!
Both products are uncomplicated, one-size-fits-all formulas that are gentle enough to use on sensitive skin. The Skin Serum is great for pepping up tired skin – it has a light gel texture that instantly cools, tightens and tones. I have been using it in the mornings as a bit of a ‘pick-me-up’ before my moisturiser – it’s oil-free, too, so I can use it even when my skin is in its ‘oily phase’. A tiny amount of this gel goes a long, long way and it smells beautifully of roses. I can imagine that this stuff would be a godsend if you lived in a hot, sweaty climate – I wish that I had found it earlier and taken it on holiday with me! It feels very healing and rejuvenating.
The Intensive Face Balm is one of the most potent ‘orangey’ products that I have ever found – it’s like marmalade and orange juice and candied peel all squished into a little jar! Made with manadarin, grapefruit and sweet orange essential oils it’s the most uplifting facial product I have sniffed in a very long while! You only need a tiny amount of this balm to treat your entire face – I have been using it as an extra ‘treat’ after a light moisturiser just in places that really need nourishing. It absorbs nicely and doesn’t leave the skin greasy, but moderation is key! Don’t go slathering it on willy-nilly – it’s a very effective rescue treatment and should be used as such! I’m so glad to have discovered this balm to use over the winter months – it’s soothing and revitalising as well as having the most incredible scent.
I think that these products are brilliantly priced; the serum is £13.95 for 50ml and the balm is £24.95. Both will last for ages so I think that they’re a great little investment. The Intensive Balm is definitely going on my list of all-time favourites! They are available to buy online at www.visagehouse.co.uk and can come nicely gift-wrapped if you’re already thinking about Christmas presents…
