Rouge Dior Haute Couleur

At the weekend, I decided to test-run one of Dior’s new Haute Coleur shades – this one, 435, was a pale corally tangerine. Sorry if that means very little in the world of colour descriptions, but it’s the best that I can do. You can see it in the utterly fantastic photo that I took – the one where my nose looks five times wider than usual.

Anyway, the thing about testing out the Haute Couleur Voluptuous Care (yes, that’s its name) was not really to gush about the colour (which I LOVE!) but to see what all the fuss is about in terms of formula. The lipstick contains hyaluronic acid that acts as a long-term treatment to smooth and plump the lips, but also instantly fills in lines and adds volume. It is a very juicy lipstick indeed – nice and shiny without being at all sticky, and really keeps its sheen.

The formula applies easily and smoothly, and the colour is definitely buildable. I prefer to apply lipstick with my fingertips in the daytime, to give a toned-down, subtle effect, and the Haute Couleur worked well this way. However, applied directly from the tube, it gave a very vivid, full pout that instantly made me look very glamorous and ‘made up’.

I felt the effects of the lipstick even once I had removed it at the end of the night – my lips felt soft and pampered, rather than dried-out and traumatised. Hurrah for the Voluptuous Care, then. And if I could please gush about this particular colour for just one second: it’s one of those brights that not everybody can wear, but if you want to inject a bit of vibrancy into your look (I was wearing all black that night, and my lips really provided some much-needed colour!) then this is the one for you.

Rouge Dior Haute Couleur is available at Selfridges for £22
