Bloody hell, that’s a bit of a mouthful, isn’t it? But I will forgive them, because this is a product that really means business. I used it to remove (take a deep breath): a layer of MAC face and body, Laura Mercier concealer, lashings of MAC bronzer, a dod of MAC strobe cream, three coats of Diorshow mascara, half a penful of black MAC liquidlast liner, a ton of MAC pigment in ‘dark soul’, a liberal dusting of Chantecaille’s face powder and about half an inch of Juicy Tubes lip-gloss. (Before you think that this is a little excessive; I was on a fashion shoot, not just popping down to the corner shop.)
Anyway, the De-maq’ concentrate blitzed that lot off my face so easily, it was like one of those adverts for kitchen cleaners, where they spray the oven tray and suddenly it’s squeaky clean.
I won’t lie: it is a bit messy. You really need to be near a sink to use this – preferably wearing some sort of plastic cape. Although the gel itself is easy to use (I applied a thick layer, and used my fingertips to massage it into my lashes to remove the mascara), when you add water, the gel quickly turns into a milk and the melted make-up runs all over the shop!
Despite not being a convenient product to use when you’re on-the-go, this Elixir Concentrate must be one of the most powerful cleansers available, short of using Turpentine or Cillit Bang. What’s more, it didn’t feel harsh at all, except when I flicked a huge blob of it into my eye. Once my sight had returned (joke!) and I had rinsed it all off, my skin was soft and even felt slightly moisturised!
