I am always on the hunt for a magical remedy for dark under-eye circles. I get the feeling that I’m not alone in this hunt; the shop shelves are filled with products promising to ‘lighten this’ and ‘eradicate that’, magazines are brimming with advice about the causes of dark circles (‘dehydration’, ‘burst capillaries’, ‘genetics’) and each week a new miracle ‘cure’ is pitched to us.
I don’t know how much of all this is true, how much rubbish we’re being fed by marketing teams around the globe – all I know is this:
1) Once a month I look as though I’ve been punched in the eye sockets
2) If I attempt to leave the house without make-up at said time of month, men scream in terror and small children run away to hide
3) Most products targeted at dark circles don’t work
So, I’ll tell you about the products that I think do work, as and when I come across them. Like the Elemis Absolute Eye Serum, for example. I have been keeping this beside the bed and applying it religiously for about a month. The serum comes with a neat little pipette in the bottle so that you only dispense a small amount. You then pat the serum over the under-eye area (sorry, that’s a little obvious!) and you’re done. It does leave a slightly sticky feeling, but I don’t mind this too much now that I’m used to it – you can apply your regular cream over the top if it bothers you.
Anyway, whatever they put into this stuff has obviously been well thought-out, because the dark circles have been significantly lighter this month. I have noticed a real difference in the skin-tone underneath my eyes, it feels tighter and somehow less fragile. That this serum is so light and refreshing really sets it apart from many other eye ‘treatments’, and I love the ritual of patting it in with my fingertips.
