Perfect 'sheeny' makeup…

by | Jul 10, 2010

Here I am on my shoot yesterday, waiting for my hair to set. I look rather whimsical, and that’s because I was having a major sugar-levels crash – an hour before this was taken, I ate a huge croissant with jam, a kiwi fruit, a smoothie, a handful of cherries and about three punnets of strawberries. You can see the food table behind me and, if you look carefully, a sneaky hand reaching out for a plate of naughty treats.

Anyway, I had the very lovely and extremely talented Anita Keeling doing my makeup – she shoots great editorial for top mags such as Vogue and iD, and her client list includes Sienna Miller, Jade Jagger, Lily Allen and Paloma Faith. Anita is very focused on enhancing natural beauty and getting skin looking glowing and amazing, so she’s obviously exactly my type of girl!

The photograph shows the makeup half-done; just the base has been finished, and the eyes defined slightly. This is always my favourite makeup stage, as it’s exactly how I wish I could look on a day-to-day basis! Obviously the picture doesn’t do Anita’s work justice, but I’m hoping that you can see the glow going on?

Here’s what Anita used to achieve the perfect, radiant base:

Skin was cleansed with a Caudalie clenaser, toned with Dermalogica Multi-active toner, and moisturised with Embryolisse.

Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizing Balm (ultra-rich, dewy finish) in two different shades (extra light and medium) was then applied with a brush. The concealer used was lovely – from Shiseido’s Inoui line, a range created by makeup guru Dick Page – but unfortunately only available in Japan. Always the way, isn’t it?

Overly-sheeny areas were dusted with Shu Uemura’s sheer translucent powder, lashes were given a coat or two of Diorshow Blackout mascara (ultra black!) and brows were darkened very slightly with MAC’s eyebrow pencil in ‘Lingering’. Eyes were defined with Clinique’s Brush-on cream liner in ‘True Black’.

I love this very nude look, with a straightforward focus on incredibly healthy-looking skin – I think that Bobbi Brown’s tinted balm is going to have to be tested out in my ‘hunt for a new tinted moisturiser’ feature!
