I “Heart” Sleeping

by | Mar 1, 2012

I could literally sleep for England. I bloody love sleeping. More than eating? Possibly, but don’t ask me to choose.

I have to have at least eight hours of sleep a day, and if I don’t get it at the allotted time (at night) then I make up for it with numerous power-naps on tubes, buses, flights and sitting at my desk. I can nap upright, but I’m in the happy situation that there’s a comfy superking bed in my office, so more often than not I just have a lie down! What luxury!

Before you hate me, I’d like to point out that I’m frequently still at the computer working at 12am, 1am, 2am, so all’s not quite as rosy as it sounds.

Anyway, I have gone completely off-piste; all I wanted to tell you about was my current “Sleep Enhancers”! I have no idea whether any of these pillow sprays or sleep gels work, but I like them all the same. Just the ritual of spraying them before bed makes me sleepy, and it also makes me appreciate every lovely bedtime. Zzzzz.

Marks & Spencer Spa Collection Absolute Calm Pillow Mist. Very Lavender-y and extremely well-priced at £6 (it might actually be £4 at the moment!) The glass spray bottle actually looks quite posh – you certainly wouldn’t be ashamed to have this lying about on the bedside table.

£6 (£4?) from MarksandSpencer.com

Rituals Yin Bed and Body Mist – I’ve posted about this one before. It has a lovely fresh fragrance that reminds me of new linen and of spring cleaning – it’s a brilliant one for hot summer nights. I didn’t even realise that it could be used as a body spray too until quite recently – bonus!

Rituals Yin Mist, £13.90 from JohnLewis.com

elemis home spa balm  Elemis Sp@Home Quiet Mind Balm. I don’t even know if this is specifically for bedtime – in fact I’m pretty sure it’s not. It’s for calming and relaxing the mind, so you could use it at any time that you felt stressed or anxious, just massaging a couple of drops into the temples. I think it’s a brilliant bedtime ritual though – it really makes me switch off and focus on being chilled out instead of worrying about all of the things that I haven’t managed to tick off my never-ending ‘to-do’ list.

Quiet Mind Balm is £14 with free delivery from FeelUnique.com

Other things that help me have a nice relaxing sleep: Sleepy Tea from Dr Stuarts (Pukka do a nice one too, even if it is a bit ‘lavendery’ for my tastes), writing in my diary to clear my mind, and LEAVING MY IPHONE OUTSIDE OF THE BEDROOM! That’s probably the most important one, actually – there’s no need to have it next to you as you’re sleeping. Is there?
